Warming up to the arrival of the Zapatista delegation in copenhagen, BumZen is hosting a cinema event this Sunday, the 1st of August.
Five hundred years after the european colonization of the indigenous peoples of Mexico, the Zapatistas are going on a reverse invasion of europe, visiting comrades and allies across borders.
On Sunday, we in BumZen are hosting a solidarity event, to fundraise for the Zapatistas’ accommodation, transportation, food and other activities during their stay in denmark.
Doors open at 19 with pintxos and mocktails, and at 20 we will screen ‚La Vocera’. During the evening, some of the Mexicogruppen activists from Internationalt Forum will be present to talk about the Zapatista struggle and tour around europe.
The movie ‚La Vocera’ (The Spokeswoman) follows Marichuy, a traditional healer chosen by the Indigenous Government Council to represent them as a presidential candidate, as the first indigenous woman in Mexico. Along her journey, Marichuy collects and links the existing struggles in various territories (Yaqui, Maya and Wixárika) leaving evidence of the importance of the resistance and organization of indigenous peoples to preserve life and dignity. At the end of the road, the questions that prevail are: Progress and development for whom and at whose expense?
We hope to see you there!
The venue is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible. Things are in the works for changing that over the next months.
Donation based entry: Sliding scale 0-100 kr. No one turned away for lack of funds!
