What can we learn today from the history of the cooperative movement?
The Danish cooperative movement had a profound impact on the economical, organizational and industrial development of Denmark. In a lot of other countries as well, cooperatives have been used as a tool for people to re-localize their economy and improve their communities. Today, cooperatives are not so common anymore and when people want to create an economic activity that would have a positive impact on their communities, they turn towards private investors instead of thinking of the cooperatives possibilities.
Jacob Rask who works in transformative adult education and is presently writing a ‘Cooperative Handbook’ which will be published in May, is going to tell us a bit more about that history, the cooperative movement and what we can learn from it and use today.
