Meet Juan Carlos Quintero from the Colombian peasant movement.
Juan Carlos Quintero has promoted the struggle for peasant agroecology and food sovereignty for more than a decade. In Catatumbo, his region of origin, the struggle stands against large scale coal mining and agroindustrial projects on oil-palm and bitter yuca for biofuels. The peasant organisation, ASCAMCAT, work determined for the establishment of Peasant Reserves (Zonas de Reserva Campesina) - a legal way to give peasants collective ownership over land and collectively resist extractivism and industrialization of their resources. Juan Carlos Quintero also represent the national organization promoting Peasant Reserves and in that position he has been able to work also at continental level, bringing also the broader experiences from Latinamerica's peasant movement. His organisation is one of the Colombian member organisations of La Via Campesina.
The meeting will be a dynamic dialogue about the work on food sovereignty in his' as well as in AK and our partners' context.
